Although the weather is cooling down, beach fun is always on! According to statistics, more than 300 million Australians visit the beach every year.

But a trip to the beach isn’t complete without a few fun games and activities, right? So, here’s a list of the best beach activities to play!

1. Sand Sculptures

We’ve all heard of sandcastles, but what about taking the game up a notch? Making sand animals is a great way for kids to entertain themselves, especially after a refreshing swim in the ocean.

Challenge your kids to build any animal they want, using a shovel, a sand bucket, lots of sand, and a bit of water to keep the sculpture together. They can either sculpt land animals, sea creatures, or even mythical sea creatures like mermaids!

To make this beach game even more magical, challenge the kids to hunt for unique shells, pebbles, seaweed, and sticks, then let their imaginations run wild as they decorate their sand sculptures like mini works of art—mermaid castles, sea creature kingdoms, or anything their beachy hearts dream up!

2. Bucket Ball

Bucket ball is one of the best beach games for adults, but even children will have lots of fun playing it. It’s somewhat similar to beer pong, except that there’s no alcohol or beer cups involved.

All you have to do is buy a set of 12 small beach buckets or plastic cups, two hybrid balls, and a timer if you want to. Kids will take turns throwing the balls inside the bucket within a set time, and the person with the highest number of successful attempts within the given time wins!

Bucket ball can be a part of family beach games, too, where both children and adults play together in teams!

3. Frisbee Golf

Frisbee golf, as the name suggests, is a mix of both frisbee and golf. Here, you can make pits or stops using normal towels, umbrellas, or even holes dug in the sand.

Kids have to take turns throwing the frisbee and have to make sure the frisbee lands inside the pits or the towel stops.

You can have each child throw as many times as it takes to land the frisbee in the right place, and the player who manages to aim the best within the least number of throws wins.

Frisbee golf requires a bit of space, so make sure you carry a large sand free beach towel, and you play in an area where there’s little interference.

4. Beach Treasure/Scavenger Hunt

Well, beach games are as fun as a beach treasure hunt! Regarded as one of the best games to play at the beach, this activity involves placing unique items along different parts of the beach and then drawing a map for your kids so that they can follow the directions on the map, follow clues, and finally find the hidden treasure!

Another variation of the game is a beach scavenger hunt where children can find beach-themed items like a unique umbrella, a funny-looking towel, lifeguard towers, or any quirky items. If possible, they might get to keep the items, too!

5. Beach Towel Volleyball

Beach towel volleyball is the beach version of conventional volleyball. You can include beach toys for adults, such as adult volleyballs, or have smaller and lighter balls for children.

Here, teams of two or three will hold a beach towel between them and use it to catch and launch the volleyball back and over the net.

The rules are the same as those for standard volleyball, except that the ball needs to be caught in the towel every time and then tossed. To make sure you play safely, set up a standard net height and use a sturdy, lightweight towel.

6. Water Bucket Relay

Racing games are always a popular activity among kids, and when you combine them in the form of a beach game, it’s sure to become a hit!

You can replace the old egg-and-spoon relay race with the beach version, where each child will have their own plastic cup or a large shell. The kid will run toward the water, fill their cup or shell with it, and then run back towards their buckets to empty the water.

The challenge lies in preventing the water from spilling, so if you want to make the game more difficult, ask them to carry the water in a spoon without spilling it!

7. Treasure Dig

Treasure dig can turn any ordinary patch of sand into a field full of opportunities for thrilling quests.

But before you begin this imaginative adventure, hide little treasures throughout the chosen sandy area. From toys to seashells to little surprises, you can bury anything you want.

Next, get your kids shovels and buckets to dig through the patch and hunt these hidden gems.

You can also make the game a pirate-style treasure hunt by sketching a map on the sand or offering fun clues. This is the ultimate way to keep your kids busy, add fun and mystery, and work up their imaginations!

8. Beach in a Bottle

Beach in a bottle is a fun beach activity where you can literally carry the entire beach inside a tiny bottle! For this, take a small vial or bottle, fill it up first with a bit of sand using a funnel or just your hands, and then place small shells on top of the sand layer.

Next, take a spoonful or cupful of water from the ocean and pour it over the sand-and-shell layer. You can also add a tiny seaweed to complete the decoration.

Finally, tightly cap the bottle or vial and keep it as a memento of the fun day that you and your kids had at the beach!

9. Beach Cricket

Beach cricket is another fun family beach game that will have everyone excited. It’s so easy to play that age or skill levels don’t matter.

All you need is a bat, ball, and makeshift wickets (think stray driftwood, sandals, or even rolled-up towel hoodies!). You don’t need additional fancy gears or complex rules.

Bonus: The sand all around ensures every jump and dive ends with a safe and cosy landing. And the open space of the beach ensures you have plenty of space to have fun!

10. Beach Clean Up

This isn’t exactly a game, but think of the wonderful example you’ll set for your children when you encourage them to keep the beach clean!

It is a fantastic activity to urge little ones to take care of not just the ocean but also the planet. Bring hand sanitiser, gloves, trash bags, a shovel, and any other items that you feel will be necessary to clean up the beach.

Make sure they wear a zip up towel hoodie so the kids can simply dust off their hands whenever they like. Our hoodies will keep them toasty and warm whilst protecting them from the wind and sun.

Conclusion

Playing beach games with your kids is a great way to spend time and bond together. Make sure you’re adequately prepared with spare clothes, water, snacks, sunscreen, and hats!
